The Big One

Posted by Stacey R. on Thursday, May 12, 2011,
Cooper is Spencer's younger brother. Spencer is my lovey boyfriend of three years. He also is a HUGE help with the business, specifically as the driver. If you get a cake from me, more than likely, you will meet Spencer. If it is personally delivered that is. Anyways, Cooper is very musically talented, and his parents asked me to make him a cake for his 13th birthday. I knew immediately what to do. The current cake of my career was born.
This cake was to be large and in charge. The piano itse...

Ladybug!

Posted by Stacey R. on Wednesday, May 11, 2011,
So this post I thought went up on the 30th, but apparently it didn't save. Sorry guys!
This cake was a birthday cake for my neighbor, Carolyn, who also happens to be the founder and owner of Special Events Oklahoma. Wowza. This cake was kind of short notice--I didn't really have a finalized idea until a couple days before. So quick that I didn't even have time to draw up a nice sketch. She told me that she wanted a ladybug with some cupcakes as flowers some how, that it should be small, and th...

Hey guys! My business cards came in today! They are just first batch, free at vistaprint, but I still think they look nice! I also got square, which allows me to accept credit cards from my phone! Hopefully the business cards will be awesome for traffic and exposure, so for anyone new reading this, welcome! I hope that you can all see my intention with this blog section, to let you see the human side of my business and let you get to know me better. Not to mention, if any of you want to try y...

Hello Kitty Baby Shower! :)

Posted by Stacey R. on Saturday, April 16, 2011,
I barely have words to describe how this cake went. It almost feels like it was all a dream and when I wake up it won't go that well. Let's start from the beginning. DISCLAIMER: I have a massive sinus headache so if my writing is off that's why haha.
My best friend and college roommate, Ashley, told me a couple weeks ago that her friend wanted me to do a cake for a baby shower she was throwing. Obviously I said yes. Ashley said that they knew exactly what they wanted: a Hello Kitty rattle. The...

Topsy-Turvy: SPOILER!

Posted by Stacey R. on Sunday, April 10, 2011,
Oh. My. Goodness. I can't believe that yesterday even happened! I finished an entire topsy-turvy cake in mmmm....probably 8sih hours. All at one sitting. Okay well except for the baking, carving, and icing part. But that's the easy portion! I don't even really know where to begin. I don't have as many construction pictures as I expected, so I guess you'll just have to read what happened.
I guess I'll start off by saying that once you read this, your thoughts of topsy cakes will change ...

Airbrushing Hiccups

Posted by Stacey R. on Friday, April 8, 2011,
Oi vey. So. The airbrush kit came in last Saturday while Spencer and I were at the zoo to see the elephants. We came home to check it out and....guess what. The air compressor was kaput. I was so bummed! We called TCP Global (our supplier) and the customer service guy said that they could either A: send me the same one again, or B: send me an upgraded version at no cost with rush shipping. Of course I chose the upgraded version! Sad part is that it is ugly and doesn't look like an elephant......

WAHOO!!!

Posted by Stacey R. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011,
So guys, last night I went and did it. I ordered an airbrush kit. SO EXCITED!! The air compressor is in the shape of an elephant with his trunk sticking straight up (this is where the air hose attaches). The air hose is blue so it looks like hes shooting water out of his trunk hehe :) It also came with 12 colors, which of course I'm stoked about, and all for less than $100! (and not just like $99 or something, literally less than $100. $74 to be exact) AND, they've already shipped it! Which m...

Ice Cream Cake

Posted by Stacey R. on Monday, March 28, 2011,
So it's been a while guys! Cakes have been slow, but I have a feeling they'll be picking up soon. :)
Okay. Spencer doesn't particularly like cake, so I decided to try to make him an ice cream cake. I had never done this before, but it seemed easy enough. He has really been into disk golf lately (don't ask), and he wanted a mini strawberry cake (his favorite of my flavors), so I decided what better to do than a disk made out of grass sittin on some grass made out of ice cream. He also wanted me...

The Corset Cake!!!

Posted by Stacey R. on Sunday, February 6, 2011,
SO! Here we are. Finally! As you read, it was quite a stressful beginning, and (believe it or not) I've learned even more. ONE: ALWAYS dowel and use cake boards for more than two layers of cake. The single most disappointing thing about this cake was that the shot glass could only fit inside tipped over due to the settling :(
TWO: Use PVC whenever possible! Or just cut your copper pipe two inches shorter instead of just an inch and a half.
THREE: When cutting a corset, even though it is more ...

this DAMN cake!!

Posted by Stacey R. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011,
Well guys we're snowed in. So I decided to take this opportunity to get a head start on baking, right? BAD IDEA. (This started two days ago mind you) Okay let me preface all of this by saying that we only have one pan in each size, and baking isn't exactly my favorite thing. Cleaning is worse haha. So, to try and speed up this baking process so I could get on to the creating, I put the 3 different sizes I needed for the corset cake in the oven at the same time. Apparently this is a rookie mis...

The Billiards Cake!

Posted by Stacey R. on Sunday, January 23, 2011,
Well the Billiards cake delivery was Thursday, and it was definitely interesting! Just about everything that could have gone wrong, did. When I was baking the third cake did not come out, so I had to create the angle out of the second cake. That meant that the rails weren't as stable as I had planned. Needless to say, they started to sag. I ended up having to literally slide a cake board THROUGH the top layer of cake! I can't believe it didn't all fall apart on me! The fondant was a bit of a ...

Billiards update :)

Posted by Stacey R. on Thursday, January 20, 2011,
Well guys it's was quite a day yesterday! The Billiards cake is almost done; the party is tonight so I just have to finih the details after class. We had a couple problems with it, but not too much. The third and top layer of cake actually stuck to the pan so I had to make due with two cakes and kinda build up the rails. This would have been fine except I had to use half of one cake to get the angle I needed and the other have to make the hangover on the rails. The rails of course began to sa...

Hello!

Posted by Stacey R. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011,
Welcome to my cake blog! I've never really had a blog so bear with me haha. As you know my name is Stacey, and I obviously have a thing for cakes. The current cake of my life is the cake for my dad and uncle's joint birthday party. The Billiards Cake! Yesterday Spencer and I made fondant and modeling chocolate from scratch, and today I baked the three cakes that I will need to carve into the pool table. Or I guess I should say "am baking," because it is still going on haha. I'm not sure if I ...
